REVIEW:
Crunchmaster 7 Ancient Grains Hint of Sea Salt crackers are a wonderfully satisfying snack.  They are crisp yet bold, with a full-bodied crunch.  They stand true to their namesake, having only a hint of saltiness, nothing too overpowering that masks the slightly nutty flavor of the grains that are packed into each cracker.  These are great snacks all on their own, having a whole grain flavor that combines well with the toasty quality of the rice.  They are actually quite addictive.  I certainly wasn’t able to stop at just one.  They also make excellent vehicles for hummus, cheese, olive spread or a slice of your favorite veggie to name a few ideas.  Their strong taste combines well with savory things of all kinds, which makes them a really good cracker to have around just for yourself or when you are expecting guests.  They are really tasty and are certainly a snack that everyone can enjoy.

Crunchmaster has a very thorough website where you can find out all sorts of facts about their company.  They grow their rice in Japan and follow pretty strict rules of harvesting and aging to create their rice crackers.  They seem to respect traditions of the East and combine them with our Western expectations of flavor and the result is indeed, a very delicious cracker.  Fifteen crackers are 130 calories with 2.5 grams of fat, which really isn’t so bad at all.  Their ingredients are honest and simple, actually containing the grains that they advertise on the packaging.  They have quinoa, amaranth, millet, and flax packed in there, which all combine to make a well rounded multi-grain cracker.

REVIEW:
These San-J Brown Rice Sesame Crackers are really full-bodied and crunchy.  They are soy sauce (gluten free soy sauce, that is) flavored and are of a thicker texture so they are perfect for dipping or even with veggies.  They are salty, true to their Tamari title, and are certainly satisfying when you want a hearty, bold cracker.  I enjoyed these with a sandwich instead of chips, with an Asian inspired veggie dish for dinner and alongside a salad.  The Rich Flavor made it the perfect compliment with every one of those meals.

Nutritionally, for as large as these crackers are, 5 are only 140 calories, with 6g of fat.  They are pretty substantial, so I really couldn’t eat more than 3 at a time anyway.  Ingredient-wise, they are nice and simple, containing only sesame, brown rice flour, gluten free tamari and potato starch.  The short list of ingredients indicates that there isn’t anything hidden or seriously unhealthy in these crackers.  I like to think that the simpler the ingredients, the more wholesome the food is. This is definitely a snack you won’t feel guilty about putting it in your system.

I really like these crackers because they are flavorful and scrumptious enough to make me feel like I am not eating a gluten free food.  They are rice crackers, but have a powerful flavor and a wonderful texture which makes it a satisfying snack food.

REVIEW:

Taste:
Gluten Free Crackers: Ener G Wheat Free Crackers Nutrition FactsBefore I say anything, I gotta fly this banner loud and proud: THESE CRACKERS TASTE LIKE CHILDHOOD! While they aren’t quite as thick as your average saltine, the taste is spot on. I am IMPRESSED- that’s right, enough to use cap locks.

On to the details:

Here we have a cracker brought to you by Ener G. This is a company well known to vegans because they make a product simply titled “egg replacer” that is a starch often used to replace eggs in vegan baked goods. While my experience with this product has been great, Ener G has a bit of a reputation for making sub par gluten free bread items. Because their rice bread in particular has a bizarre texture that makes it more akin to a sponge then a food item I had a lot of hesitation approaching these crackers. Let’s just say that eating them was a great lesson in keeping an open mind.

Like I said before, the taste of these is just exactly like the saltines that I knew and loved as a kid. They are crisp, light, buttery, and have just a hint of a salty edge. There is a no frills simplicity about them that I actually much appreciate. I could imagine them perfectly complimenting a spicy vegan chili or a chickpea rice noodle soup. Additionally, a smear of peanut butter and chopped banana could make an excellent pre or post workout snack. Essentially, the rich flavor provides a strong backdrop for any other flavors or spices introduced. This cracker would add depth to any meal. The texture of these crackers is an excellent addition to the flavor. The rich flavor is completely complimented by the lightness of the texture.

I hate what I am about to say, but I must be completely honest in every review. Despite the complete and total deliciousness of these crackers, I find the calorie content to be fairly ridiculous in nature. The serving size is three crackers and it clocks in at a whopping 160 calories. This breaks down to be about 53 calories per cracker. These crackers are by no means large and so it seems sad that such caloric density exists in each one. Remember that buttery taste I said that I loved? Yeah, there’s a reason it’s so delicious.

Labeling:  Labeling on this product was very sufficient. All nutrition information was clear and present.

Packaging:  The design of Ener G’s packaging has always kind of baffled me. The photographs presented always look slightly off color (as if they were taken in the 1980’s and shoved in a desk drawer for a few decades). Despite it making the product not appear actually appetizing, it is a funny little nuance that makes the brand easily identifiable. While the picture doesn’t make me want to eat, it does make me giggle a little, so I’m not complaining. The packaging of this product was a small cardboard box with two plastic wrapped bags of 8 crackers each. I found this to be sufficient for keeping the product fresh.

REVIEW:
Doctor in the Kitchen, created by Dr. Alison Levitt, makes a line of flax seed crackers called Flackers.  Everything is based on her motto “Good food is wise medicine.”  She developed Flackers for herself and her clients as a way to get the nutritional benefits of flax seed in a great tasting cracker.

Let me first start off by saying that we are not raw food eaters.  We have had a few raw products in the past and were not fans of them.  That has all changed with these Doctor in the Kitchen Flackers.  These crackers are made of organic flax seeds that are formed into sheets about the size of a business card and are flavored with organic spices.  The flavor is great.  You can really taste the nutty flavor of the flax seed, which is enhanced by the organic spices that they add to it.  The texture is great too; nice and crispy.  I would consider it a little complex though because they start off crispy and end up chewy.  They get stuck in your teeth too so if you have sensitive teeth, you might want to be a little careful.

The Flackers come in 3 varieties: dill, rosemary and savory.  Dill is made flavored with organic apple cider vinegar, organic dill, and organic red chili peppers.  Rosemary is flavored with organic apple cider vinegar, organic rosemary and organic sage.  Savor is flavored with organic apple cider vinegar, organic garlic, organic onion, organic chili pepper and organic basil.  These are all flavors that go great with the nutty flavor of the flax seeds.  These crackers are very flavorful and can be eaten plain, but they are great with cheese and dips as well.  It’s a great healthy alternative to traditional crackers.
Gluten Free Crackers: Doctor in the Kitchen Flackers Nutrition Facts
Nutrition Facts for Rosmary Variety

Flax seeds are a great source for nutrition.  They are a good source for omega-3 fatty acid, fiber, antioxidants, protein, plant lignans, vitamins and minerals.  These Flackers are raw too so that means that they are dehydrated at low temperatures.  The manufacturer claims that this helps preserve the omega-3 fatty acid.  With 100-110 calories, 7 grams of fat, 75-90 milligrams of sodium and 5 grams of protein per serving of 3 flackers, this is a great alternative to traditional crackers.

Overall, we were very impressed by these Flackers.  We never knew raw could taste so good.  Doctor in a Kitchen has combined great taste and snack that is good for you too.  For more information about this product, visit the manufacturer’s website at: www.drinthekitchen.com.

Taste: The Flackers have great flavor.  You can really taste the nutty flavor of the flax seeds.  The flavoring is perfect too; seasoned with organic herbs and spices.

Labeling:  The labeling on this product is very clean and elegant.  The labels are easy to read and go into detail about what it is that makes them stand apart from the rest.

Packaging:  The Flackers come in a plastic bag, but be careful opening them as they are one of those tricky bags that end up ripping easily.   The plastic package is placed in a 100% recycled paperboard box.

REVIEW:
RW Garcia’s philosophy is “great tasting can be good for you.”  We saw it with their tortilla chips and today we saw it with their 5 Seed Crackers they sent us a few weeks back.  They use only high quality ingredients in their products including organic non-GMO corn and additive-free and preservative-free seasonings.  Their 5 Seed Crackers live up to their philosophy.

RW Garcia’s 5 Seed Crackers come in 3 varieties, Rosemary and Garlic, Onion and Chive, and Tellicherry Cracked Pepper.  These crackers, made with white corn, hemp seeds, brown flaxseed, poppy seed, black sesame seeds and white sesame seeds, pack great flavor.  You would think with just 50 mg of sodium per serving, there might not be much flavor, but you’d be wrong.  These crackers are flavored with things like garlic powder, onion powder, pepper and salt.  It doesn’t take much seasoning to make these crackers taste good either.  The corn and 5 types of seeds these crackers are made of are flavorful on their own.  The flavors work very well together.  The texture is also pretty good.  Biting into a cracker, you get a nice crunch, but I must admit that these are a little on the dry side.  It goes great with dip though.

Gluten Free RW Garcia 5 Seed Crackers
Nutrition Facts
Part of RW Garcia’s philosophy is being a healthy snack.  With a serving size of about 16 crackers, these have 140 calories, 7 grams of fat, 1 gram of saturated fat, no cholesterol, and 50mg of sodium.  I’m by no means a health expert, but seeing the nutrition of similar products, I would say these are pretty healthy.  I wouldn’t feel too guilty eating these crackers.

Overall we liked these crackers a lot.  They have great flavor, they pack a great  crunch and they’re pretty healthy.  Add to that the fact that it is certified organic and is Non-GMO Project verified, we’ve got a great snack on our hands.  They are a little on the pricy side, but what you’re paying for is a quality snack that not only tastes good, but is also good for you.  For more information about RW Garcia’s line of snacks, visit their website at: www.rwgarcia.com.

Taste: These crackers pack a nice light flavor that is great for snacking.  You can enjoy them on their own or with your favorite dip for the perfect crunchy snack.

Labeling:  You can see right away that RW Garcia has put a lot of effort into their labeling.  All of the images are clear and all of the text is easy to read.  These crackers are Non-GMO Project verified, certified organic and, although it doesn’t say it on the packaging, certified gluten free.

Packaging:  The packaging is very attractive with colors that are pleasing to the eyes.  A sealed plastic bag holds the crackers and is placed in a recycled paperboard box.

REVIEW:

Lately we have come to the realization that we love Snapdragon’s products…and with good reason. We have had the pleasure of trying a few of them in the past couple weeks and they have all been great. These Bangkok Sweet Chili Baked Rice Crisps reminds us why we love them so much.

Let’s start with Snapdragon’s signature baked rice crisps. They are one of the tastiest rice crisps that I have ever had. You can definitely taste the sweetness of the rice in it. These rice crisps are baked and not fired which means it has a lot less fat than fried chips. Snapdragon has the flavoring perfected. A lot of times strong flavors like this Bangkok Sweet Chili tend to overpower the flavor of the cracker. So much so that it starts tasting artificial and it just leaves an unpleasant aftertaste in your mouth. With this cracker the flavor is not overly strong and is more of a flavor enhancement than the main show. It is a nice sweet flavor; just a little sweeter than the Whole-Grain Brown Rice flavor that we had last week. While the name of the flavor does contain the word “chili” don’t be too afraid because there is only a light hint of spiciness.

This cracker is a great healthier alternative to chips. This are baked, which not only gives it a nice lighter texture, but it also helps with the fat and calorie content. With 140 calories, 3 grams of fat, 0 cholesterol, and 120 milligrams of sodium it’s definitely on the healthier side as far as snacks go.

This flavor of cracker is great with a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and crunch. It is suitable for just about everyone including people who are gluten free and vegan. This product does contain soy though so if you are allergic, you might want to look elsewhere. There is also labeling on the package that states that this product is manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts so if you have a severe peanut allergy, you might want to be extra careful with this product.

Taste: Great light sweet and spicy flavor in this cracker. The flavor is not overpowering and shares the spotlight with the equally tasty rice cracker.

Labeling: The labeling on this package is very simple and clean. All the important information is right on the front of the box. This cracker is gluten free and vegan. Things to note are that this product contains soy and is processed in a facility that also processes peanuts.

Packaging: The packaging is very simple much like other crackers. The crackers are sealed in an airtight cellophane bag which is placed in a paperboard box.

REVIEW:
My Dreams Come True! It’s not just a saying. It’s actually the name of one of the varieties of gluten free crackers made by Nicole’s Divine Crackers. They make a line of gluten-free crackers with very catchy names. “My Dreams Come True” is the one that we tried and it is definitely an interesting combination of flavors that I would never have thought of…Cranberry Pepper. They also have “Tomato-Tomahto”, “Be Sure to Flax Me”, and “Dilly Dillingham”, all of which are very catchy.

Flavor is a big part of how we rate the products that pass through our tasting station. With a name like “My Dreams Come True” my expectations ran high especially with the unique combination of flavors of cranberry and pepper. Open up the bag and you’ll find it filled with 5 ounces of pita chip-like crackers. I popped a cracker in my mouth and began chewing. Were my eyes playing tricks on me? I saw what looked like pita chips so I expected a nice firm crunch. Although it was close, there was just something about it that was just different. I would describe it as firmer than your traditional cracker (think Ritz) and not as crispy as a pita chip. Something else was different too…the flavor. I’m not sure if it was the dried cranberries, but there was a hint of flavor I’m just not used to. We decided to try these with some blue cheese dip and they did a good job with scooping up the thick dip. It held its shape and because of its firmness, you can actually get a good amount of dip on there.

Overall, I thought these crackers were alright. They wouldn’t be my first choice of crackers, especially at $4.99 a box. But there are some advantages to these crackers. They are relatively healthy compared to a lot of other crackers at only 70 calories and 95mg of sodium per serving. So if you are looking for a healthy cracker to enjoy with your favorite dip, these are probably the crackers for you.

Taste: These crackers had a good firm texture and had a very unique flavor, probably from the cranberries.

Labeling: Nice labeling with very catchy names.

Packaging: Simple, yet attractive paperboard outer packaging. Inner packaging is sealed plastic. One thing to note is that the paperboard package is resealable, but the inner one isn’t.

REVIEW:

Glutino is a very popular company that produces gluten free products.  They have several lines of products which include snacks, frozen meals, bakery goods, baking mixes, and cereals, all of which are gluten free.  We have had several of their products in the past and, for the most part, liked them.  When we saw these crackers, we were sure that we would enjoy them.  The problem with gluten free cookies and crackers is that they tend to have a weird texture.  It’s hard to describe, but I would probably best describe it as a soft and powdery texture.  Those of you who have tried gluten free crackers will know what I am talking about.

When we opened up the box of these crackers, first thing we noticed was that many of the crackers were broken.  It didn’t bug me too much because they would all eventually end up in my belly, but it does make it difficult to scoop the right ratio of dip and cracker with sections of the cracker missing.  This cracker was a little on the soft/powdery side, but it wasn’t too bad.  I had these with some hummus and it went together perfectly.

In the end these are just crackers and don’t have much flavor by themselves, but they make for great dipping food.  These crackers are great for everyone.  They have just the right amount of crunch, yet they are still a little soft, so that just about anyone can eat them.

Taste:  Taste and texture can be a little tricky for gluten free products.  Overall, Glutino did a good job with this cracker.   We had the original flavor crackers and I didn’t expect them to be much other than great for dipping and I was right.  They are a tad bland by themselves, but great when accompanying your favorite dip.  If you’re looking for a cracker with a little more flavor that can be enjoyed without anything extra, I would look into their other varieties which include cheddar, vegetable, and multigrain flavors.

Labeling: The labeling on these crackers is nice and simple and includes an enlarged image of the cracker on the back to show the texture and the image is accurate.  It also clearly states that it is gluten free right on the front of the box.

Packaging: The packaging is your typical cracker box printed on 100% recycled fibers.  It may be the American products that I am used to, but the amount of product in the box seems a little low compared to other non gluten free crackers that are available at the supermarket.  Only 4 servings in this box…it just might be a smart thing because gluten free products don’t usually last as long once opened.

REVIEW:

Mary’s Gone Crackers…has Mary gone crackers or are her crackers so good that they’re gone?  No matter how you read the name, what really matters are the delicious gluten-free crackers in the box.  It has simple ingredients: brown rice, quinoa, flax seeds, sesame seeds, a little filtered water, and some flavoring like wheat free tamari soy sauce, salt and pepper for the salt and pepper variety.  Other flavors of course will have slightly different flavor ingredients.

So what is Mary’s story?  No backstory on the box, but a little digging on her website and I found that Mary has a gluten intolerance and when she found out, she set out to create snacks that she could enjoy and share with others.  What she came up with, were these delicious crackers that everybody loved no matter where she went.

Taste: These crackers come in caraway, original, black pepper, herb, and onion.  We had the original, caraway and black pepper and enjoyed all of them.  While many other crackers have to load up on sodium to gain flavor, this cracker uses several different grains to give it flavor.  It’s not to say that these crackers don’t contain any sodium, but at 180mg for a serving size of 30g which is 13 crackers it is reasonable compared to other similar products.  Because this cracker is made up of several different grains, there are many different textures in this cracker, but overall it can be described as crunchy.  Some of the seeds are a little hard though and can spell trouble for people with sensitive teeth.  So if you have sensitive teeth, you might want to stay away.

Labeling: Good labeling that covers pretty much all the bases; Organic, kosher, non-GMO, whole grain, made with love, vegan-dairy free, wheat-free, gluten-free, no hydrogenated oils, and no trans-fats.  All listed on the side are some of the reasons why you should buy this product.  Would we buy it again? Most Likely

Packaging: The packaging on these crackers is also very good even though it is essentially double packaged.  The crackers come in easy to tear plastic packaging to lock in the freshness and that is put into a 100% recycled paperboard box that is printed with 100% soy based ink.  It’s nice to see a company trying to be more environmentally friendly.
