REVIEW:
When it comes to chips, potatoes are king.  They come in different shapes and sizes and it’s all about what you like.  We were at the supermarket last week and came across these Boulder Canyon Natural Foods Canyon Cut Wavy Potato Chips.  We have had Boulder Canyon chips in the past and they are great, so we knew we had to give these a try.  Like their other chips, these are also all natural and gluten free.  These chips come in Honey BBQ, Sour Cream & Chive, Totally Natural, and Salt & Cracked Pepper.

If you’re a potato chip purist, you will love these chips.  Take one bite into them and you can really taste the potato, especially in the Totally Natural variety.  The chips are light and crispy and are the perfect consistency.  The waves add strength to the chips, which is great for dips.  If you decide to enjoy these chips with dip, the waves will help hold the dip.

These chips are simple.  The totally natural is contains potatoes, vegetable oil and salt and the other varieties are similar, but with flavor additives.  The Totally Natural variety contains just 150 Calories, 7g of fat, 135mg of sodium, and 2g of protein.  Comparing this with similar chips on the market, these are pretty good values.  The other varieties have similar nutrition facts, but slightly higher sodium content (200mg range).

Overall, we loved these chips.  They had great potato flavor and had the perfect texture and consistency. It is the perfect chip for a potato chip purist.  For more information about these Boulder Canyon Natural Foods Canyon Cut chips, visit their website at: www.bouldercanyonfoods.com

Taste: These chips are great.  They are perfectly seasoned and have a great light crunch.

Labeling:  The labeling is very simple.  These are all natural, gluten free and delicious.

Packaging:  On the packaging, they have a Green Energy label.  They purchase renewable energy credits to cover 100% of their products.  They chips come in a chip bag made of a mixture of plastic and paper.

REVIEW:
Popcorn…one of the most popular movie time snacks.  I love popcorn just as much as the next person, but the skins of the kernels always seem to find their way to get stuck between my teeth.  Medora Snacks out of New York has the perfect answer to this dilemma with their Popcorners Popped Corn Chips.  The manufacturer sent us samples of these amazingly tasty chips that we just fell in love with.

The Popcorners come in 5 flavors: White Cheddar, Cheesy Jalapeno, Butter, Sea Salt and Kettle.  They are all delicious, but if I had to choose out of the flavors, White Cheddar is probably my favorite.  The chips resemble a tortilla chip.  They are triangular and have a slight curve to them that make it perfect for scooping up your favorite dip although they taste great on their own.  These taste exactly like popcorn and the flavoring on them just enhances the popcorn rather than overpowers it.  The overall flavor is very light.  As for the texture, it’s not quite popcorn-like, but it’s a very nice light texture.  Bite into it and it has a nice crunch, much like the texture of a very thin rice chip.

These delicious snacks are fairly healthy too.  They are all natural and they are actually popped rather than fried.  Each 1oz serving contains 130 calories, 3 grams of fat, no cholesterol and 2 grams of protein.  Sodium differs from flavor to flavor.  Kettle has just 105mg, Cheesy Jalapeno has 115mg, White Cheddar has 120mg, Sea Salt has 170mg and butter has 280mg of sodium per serving.

Medora Snacks has put a lot of care into their products.  Although the facility they make their products in is not a designated gluten free facility, they have an isolated gluten free area.  The gluten free products have their own segregated line to prevent cross contamination from occurring.  They also test their products regularly as an added precaution.

Overall, we loved these chips a lot.  At just $1.99-$2.29 per bag, they’re a pretty good value too.  It’s a good thing too, because you will probably be buying a lot of these being as addictive as they are.  For more information or to find retail locations, visit the Popcorners website at: www.popcorners.com

Taste: These popped corn chips tasted great.  They have a light and crunchy texture and great flavor that isn’t overpowering.  Watch out though, because they are pretty addicting.

Labeling:  The labeling on these chips is very simple and easy to read.  Each flavor has its own color associated to it so you can find it quickly on the shelf.

Packaging:  Regular air filled chip bag

REVIEW:
RW Garcia’s Flaxseed and Corn Tortilla Chips are the perfect gluten free snack.  Finally, a gluten free snack that is not only good for you, but tastes great too!  The other week, the manufacturer sent us a few packs of these delicious chips that completely won over the taste buds our staff.

RW Garcia’s Flaxseed and Corn Tortilla Chips come in 4 flavors; Soy, Spice, Thai, and Blue Flax.  The soy flavor is similar to a regular tortilla chip, the Spice flavor is a slightly smoky savory flavor and the Thai flavor is a sweet and spicy flavor.  There’s a flavor for everyone.  A lot of times, chips are salty and have way too much flavor powder on them.  They end up being way too salty.  You won’t find that here with these RW Garcia Flaxseed and Corn Tortilla chips.  Each chip is perfectly seasoned with just enough flavor powder so you still taste the natural taste of the flaxseed and corn.  The texture is great too.  We saw very few broken chips in the bag.  They are crispy and firm and do very well with dips.

Nutrition Facts for Thai Flavor
The chips tasted great and we were even happier when we saw how healthy these chips are.  With just 140 calories, 7 grams of fat, no cholesterol, 80mg of sodium and 2 grams of protein per serving for the Thai flavor, these are actually really healthy.  The spice flavor has similar nutrition facts, but an even more impressive 5 grams of protein.  The Soy flavor has just 50 mg of sodium and an impressive 5 grams of protein.  Similar chips flavored tortilla chips I’ve seen have well over 200 mg of sodium per serving, so it’s surprising to see that this one has under 80mg.  These chips also contain flaxseed, which is known to be very healthy.  It is probably the reason for the high protein content.  It also makes these chips a great source of Omega-3s with over 500mg per serving.

Overall, we loved these chips.  They taste great, they have great texture and they are healthy.  Priced just a little higher than your typical flavored tortilla chip, it isn’t a bad value either for such a high quality snack.  For more information about these chips and for store locations, visit their website at: www.rwgarcia.com.

Taste: This chip packs great flavor and texture in a very healthy snack form.

Labeling:  Great labeling that is very easy to read.  These chips are also certified organic and gluten free.  One thing we saw on here that we’ve never seen before is the high capacity barcode on the back that brings you to great recipes for these chips.

Packaging:  Sealed chip bag

REVIEW:
Chips…who doesn’t like them? It is the one snack that often has its own isle in the grocery store. But why is it that we love them so much? Is it their nice savory flavor? Is it their crunch? Well these Boulder Canyon Natural Foods Rice & Adzuki Bean snack chips have it all. Not only do they have nice flavor and crunch, but they’re gluten free too.

Boulder Canyon Natural Foods in Boulder, CO have hit a home run with these chips. They are made with rice and adzuki beans. I’ve never heard of adzuki beans so I had to look it up and according to Wikipedia, they are red beans that are grown in East Asia and the Himalayas. They are the red beans that are used in many Asian desserts. I’ve had these desserts before. I just never realized that they can be used to make chips. It is a very unique idea and the flavor really compliments the chips.

We tasted the Chipotle Cheese flavor. Pop the inch and a half square chip into your mouth and you will be greeted by a nice smoky flavor from the chipotle. The chips are rather light. Think Sun Chips, but with an even lighter texture. There’s really nothing to not like about these chips. I took a glance at Boulder Canyon Natural Foods’ website and they have an entire line of gluten free chips. If these chips are any indication of the products they produce, I’m sure they are all equally great.

These chips are great for everyone, whether you are on a gluten free diet or not. It is crunchy and has great flavor. A big plus is that even though these chips are gluten free, they aren’t any more expensive than regular chips are.

Taste: Great flavor that is perfectly balanced a nice crunch. I’ve never had rice and adzuki bean chips before, but they might have just become my favorite.

Labeling: The labeling is very simple and is attractive. Combine that with a unique product and you have a very good snack alternative.

Packaging: Boulder Canyon Natural Foods has very nice packaging here. On the back, they explain that they purchase renewable energy credits to cover 100% of their Products. It’s nice to see a company that takes pride in their environment. On their website, I found that they are developing compostable packaging. I don’t think this packaging is compostable, but it’s nice to see that they are putting some effort into it.
