We recently met the charming Alison Bailey Vercruysse @ a book signing for Growing Roots by Katherine Leiner who asks us the question in her forward …“Who among the younger generation is drawn to a life that promotes sustainability through farming, cooking, organic food production and gardening?” well that would be the business savvy + food activist + creator of 18 Rabbits, Alison Bailey Vercruysse.
As usual, I read the back story of the soft + chewy Cheeky Cherry Chocolate Granola Bar
1. LOCALLY PRODUCED.. the granola bars are made in the United States in fact in Oakland , California….Three cheers for the locals!!!
2. NOUISHING the community: 18 R “gives more than 1% of bars made to children in need”…Turns out that Alison distributes the bars through the San Francisco Food Bank to public school as part of their morning snack programs…Three cheers for directed public service!!!!
3. YUMMY: actually that is not a word just a nebulous feeling of well being after snacking on a wheat free granola bar chock full of cranberries + chocolate +coconut+ pumpkin seeds (she also has a bar that contains dates and raisins).. Best to read the back story …all the ingredients listed make you realize …. you really can climb that dusty steep trail with the aid of a trusty 18 rabbits granola bar. Don’t forget to bring water.
4. COST REFLECTS items 1 + 2 +3… yes these bars are pricey …. For the reason listed above..
NOTE.. I love soft granola bars there are those amongst us ..Jennifer for instance who prefers “crunchy” granola bars…18 Rabbits granola bars are “chewy”
Taste: The flavor is great on this bar it is slightly sweet and chewy.
Labeling: The labeling is very simple. Brand and flavor on the front and ingredients, nutrition facts, and a back story on the back.
