REVIEW:
Taste:
Today we have a bar product from Oskri, a fairly mysterious company out of Lake Mills, Wisconsin. This company specializes in dried fruit/nut and seed bars that pop up everywhere I go in Northern California from Grocery stores to Gas Stations. Time and again these bars have saved my poor vegan and gluten free traveler butt and I was excited to be presented with the opportunity to discuss this little company’s handiwork in a public forum.

I mentioned before that this company was a bit mysterious and not only because their products seem to be a Godsend in moments when they are least expected to appear. After I tasted this product I found there to be something unique about the flavors (there are both Indian and Mediterranean overtones in this particular bar) and wanted to hear more about the company’s origins. After about forty five minutes I found literally almost NO information, including on the Oskri’s website. Dismayed, I pressed on. Despite my lack of background information, I at least feel qualified to discuss the flavor!

Oskri offers many versions of its Sesame Bars but this particular variety is the most complex. It includes four simple ingrediants: sesame, molasses, rice syrup and fennel. The combination is nuanced in a way that provided me with many different hits of flavor and as I chewed the complexity became deeper and richer as fennel hit sesame seed. The resulting flavor is a multi cultural amalgamation of texture and flavor- one that denies logic in its construction, but manages to satisfy regardless. The sesame adds a richness akin to peanut butter to the flavor, while the fennel cleanses and cleans the palate. Texturally, this product reminds me of straight up peanut brittle. The sugary Fattyness has an undeniable reference, and that is perhaps my favorite part of all.

Nutritionally speaking, these bars certainly aren’t terrible. Each packaged bar has 3 wafers that clock in at about 89 calories each. Eating one wafer post meal would be an excellent way to curb a dessert craving sweet tooth, and the crunch of bar feels like indulging in candy. Although rice syrup is the sweetener the natural sugar content is fairly high, but I think it would be worth it to sneak past a craving for cookies and a pint of ice cream.

Labeling:
Labelling of this product was clear and concise. I deem it to be very sufficient.

Packaging:
This bar is packaged in a plastic wrapper. It seems ideal for keeping the product crispy and fresh.
