REVIEW:
Cookies con Amore, which translates to Cookies with Love, produces unique cookies based on old, Italian recipes passed down from generation to generation. Using only fresh quality ingredients and time tested recipes, they make delicious, traditional Italian treats. Unlike many gluten free products on the market, the Amaretti cookie is not a newly created wheat free alternative, it is, and always has been made without gluten.

Amaretti is the Italian word for macaroon, but is unlike the macaroon cookies that I am used to eating. I usually think of a macaroon as a cookie made from coconut, egg whites and honey, but these cookies were not like that at all. Amaretti cookies are more like the original macaroon, which refers to an airy, baked treat usually made with ground almonds or coconut. Crisp, but not hard, these Italian cookies reminded me of biscotti and are traditionally served with a dessert wine. Due to egg whites and powered sugar as prominent ingredients, the amaretti cookies were light and fluffy with a strong almond-y taste and had crunchy sugar crystals on top. The folks at Cookies con Amore add extra amaretto and orange extracts to bring out the flavor of the ground almonds. These unique cookies made without preservatives are crisp on the outside and relatively soft on the inside.

I found these cookies to be a delicious, unique treat. I was surprised by their rich flavor and relieved that they weren’t too hard, heavy, or filling. However, if you have severe allergies, beware! Cookies con Amore makes traditional Italian sweets, which means that the other cookies they produce contain gluten-rich ingredients, and cross contamination is a definite possibility.

Taste:  Almond-y, light and sweet, these cookies were a delicious snack. The ingredients they contain are minimal, but unique which attributes to its rich taste and makes these sweets more of a delicacy than your average cookie.

Labeling: A big, obvious label is posted on the outside of the package stating that these cookies are non gluten and have no cholesterol. There is a label that gives information about the cookies, their Italian authenticity, nutrition facts, and ingredients.

Packaging: The cookies are packaged in a clear plastic, clam-style box.
